 Senior IT Officer

Job Overview

 

The IT Support and Security Administrator is responsible for providing comprehensive technical support to end-users and ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of the organization's IT infrastructure and data. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing network resources, administering security systems, and implementing best practices for data protection and cyber resilience. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong understanding of IT systems and a keen eye for security vulnerabilities.

Responsibilities:

I. IT Support and System Administration (Approx. 70%)

   End-User Support:

  • Provide first and second-level technical support for hardware (desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices) and software (operating systems, Microsoft 365/Google Workspace, business applications).

  • Respond to IT support tickets, emails, and phone calls in a timely and professional manner, adhering to established SLAs.

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues, escalating complex problems to higher-level IT staff or external vendors when necessary.

  • Onboard and offboard employees, including setting up user accounts, configuring workstations, and managing access permissions.

System and Network Administration:

  • Administer and maintain user accounts, groups, and permissions in Google Identity - Workspace (or similar directory services) and cloud-based platforms.

  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues (LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi).

  • Assist with the configuration and maintenance of network devices (routers, switches, firewalls) under guidance.

  • Manage and maintain server infrastructure (Windows Server, Linux) including patching, backups, and monitoring.

  • Support video conferencing solutions. (zoom, google meeting)

  • Document IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.

 

Asset Management:

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of IT hardware and software assets.

  • Assist with procurement of IT equipment and software licenses.

  • Ensure proper disposal of end-of-life IT assets.

II. IT Security Assistance (Approx. 30%)

Basic Security Monitoring and Awareness:

  • Assist in monitoring basic security alerts from antivirus software or firewall logs.

  • Report suspicious activities or potential security issues to senior IT staff immediately.

  • Promote general security awareness among employees by sharing simple best practices (e.g., strong passwords, phishing recognition tips) provided by senior IT.

Security System Support:

  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of security tools such as antivirus software and basic firewall rules, under supervision.

  • Help ensure that security updates and patches are applied to endpoints (desktops, laptops) as instructed.

  • Assist in managing user access and permissions to ensure only authorized personnel have access to specific systems and data.

 

Security Monitoring and Incident Response:

  • Monitor security systems (e.g., SIEM, EDR, antivirus) for alerts and potential threats.

  • Investigate security incidents, identify root causes, and assist in remediation efforts.

  • Partifipate & support team to perform regular vulnerability scans and penetration tests (or assist external testers).

  • Respond to and escalate security incidents according to established protocols.

Backup and Data Protection:

  • Verify that routine data backups are running successfully.

  • Assist in basic data recovery efforts when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, OR equivalent practical experience.

  • 2-4 years of experience in an IT support role with demonstrated exposure to IT security functions.

  • Proven experience troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems (client and server).

  • Familiarity with network concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and network devices.

  • Strong proficiency in Google Workspace administration

  • Experience with Google Identity user and group management.

  • Understanding of basic cybersecurity principles (e.g., firewalls, VPNs, antivirus, phishing awareness).

  • Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures.

  • Desirable: Experience with Linux, virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V), mobile device management (MDM), cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.

  • Customer-focused with a patient and helpful disposition.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • High level of integrity and a strong sense of responsibility regarding data security.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
